“I wish I could give them more than 5 ⭐️ I cannot say enough good things about this company. Lawton and Tiffany are the best! While their specialty is working and doing custom builds on Jeeps, they sure do know there way around other vehicles as well. I brought in my 2010 Subaru for a once over, they were very up front with what I needed and didn’t try to just make a quick buck off me. They are very thorough. They always kept me updated on the process of my repairs and answered any question I had. I will bring any vehicle I have in the future to them. In a world where companies try to rip people off, it’s a breath of fresh air to find a family owned business where they test you like family! THANKS AGAIN LAWTON AND TIFFANY!”

“About a month ago, my new to me Wrangler JLU developed a true death wobble. I called multiple shops, and was feeling defeated, then reached out to Superior. With Lawton and the team at Superior Auto & Offroad. They diagnosed my Jeep's death wobble the right way instead of just throwing parts at it. Lawton took the time to test drive it, explain exactly what was wrong, and only recommended what actually needed to be fixed. Fair pricing, honest advice, and excellent workmanship. My Wrangler has since completed a 4-day road trip and multiple trails without a single issue. They've earned my business for the long haul. Highly recommend.”

“The entire crew at Superior Offroad was incredible to work with. Their professionalism, communication, and commitment to surpassing their customer’s expectations is second to none. I met with multiple shops during the research phase of my upgrades, and none went above and beyond to help me find exactly what I wanted for my Jeep like Lawton and Tiff did. The work was thorough, on time, and very fairly and competitively priced. This shop is 100% worth the hour+ drive I make from south Tampa, and I would highly recommend Superior Offroad to anyone thinking of upgrades or service to their vehicle.”

“It’s in the name. Superior knowledge on how to build your Jeep to real off-roading capabilities. They’ll do mall crawlers and pavement princesses too but there’s plenty of other shops out there that that’s all they’re good for. Well, not really, you’ll end up having to go to Superior to fix their mistakes. Lol. Also, great at diagnosing engine issues and all things suspension/steering. The best in the Tampa/central Florida area bar none. Don’t waste your time or $ anywhere else.”

“I can’t say enough great things about Superior Off-Road! They took my Jeep to the next level by installing a lift and adding some beastly 42-inch tires. Not only does it look absolutely amazing, but the ride is smoother and more capable than ever. They also went above and beyond with their service and made sure everything was perfect. If you’re looking to upgrade your off-road vehicle, these are the folks to trust. Thanks again, Superior Off-Road!”

Services

Climate & power services

A/C repair

We test system pressures and vent temperatures, find leaks at hoses, seals, condensers and evaporators, and check compressors, clutches, cooling fans and blend doors. Repairs are made before recharging with the correct refrigerant, R-134a or R-1234yf depending on your vehicle, at the specified charge amount, so the system cools properly.

Battery testing & replacement

A load or conductance test shows how much capacity your battery has left, not just whether it has a charge today. When replacement is needed, we install a quality battery with the right size, terminal layout and cold cranking amps for your vehicle, including AGM batteries where the manufacturer requires them.

Heating system repair

Your heater uses hot engine coolant flowing through the heater core, so heating problems often trace back to low coolant, a stuck thermostat, a clogged core or a faulty blend door. We also service radiators, hoses and climate control components, since the same coolant circuit keeps your engine from overheating.

Electrical system service

Testing and repair for alternators, starters, battery cables, grounds and fuses. Slow cranking, flickering lights, a battery warning light or repeated dead batteries can all point to a charging or starting problem. We test each part of the system and check for parasitic draws, so you replace only the component that actually failed.

Warning signs

Signs your A/C or battery needs attention

  • A/C blowing warm or weak air
  • Strange noises when the A/C is on
  • Water or musty smells inside the cabin
  • Slow cranking or clicking when starting
  • Dim headlights or a battery warning light

If you notice any of these, call the shop or book an inspection.

Florida experience

We know what Florida heat does to A/C and electrical systems.

Root-cause diagnosis

We find why it failed, so the fix lasts.

How we diagnose A/C problems

Adding refrigerant without finding out why it was low only treats the symptom. A/C systems are sealed, so low refrigerant almost always means a leak. We start by checking vent temperatures and system pressures, then confirm the compressor clutch, cooling fans and controls are working. From there we look for leaks at hoses, fittings, the condenser and the compressor, using leak detection methods suited to your system.

Your vehicle uses one of two common refrigerants, R-134a or the newer R-1234yf, depending on its year and make. They are not interchangeable, and each requires its own service equipment. Once the cause is found, we explain the repair, whether that is a seal, a hose, a condenser damaged by road debris or a failing compressor, and then recharge the system to the amount your vehicle specifies.

Why Florida heat is hard on batteries

Many people assume cold weather kills batteries, but heat does much of the damage. High temperatures speed up the chemical reactions inside a battery, which increases internal corrosion and water loss. Under-hood temperatures in a Florida summer climb well above the outside air temperature. A battery can keep working for months while its capacity quietly drops, then fail with little warning on a morning when it simply can’t crank the engine.

That is why testing matters more than age alone. A load test or conductance test shows how much capacity the battery has left, and a charging system test confirms the alternator is keeping it charged. Clean, tight terminals matter as well, since corrosion and loose connections cause many no-start problems. Testing during routine visits gives you a chance to replace a weak battery on your own schedule instead of in a parking lot.

Trucks, Jeeps and vehicles with added electrical loads

Light bars, winches, upgraded audio, fridges, dash cams and other accessories all draw power, and some draw it even when the engine is off. On trucks, Jeeps and off-road builds, that extra load can shorten battery life or overwhelm a stock charging system. Some vehicles also use dual batteries or AGM batteries, which call for the correct replacement and, on some newer models, a battery registration step after installation.

If your battery keeps dying overnight, the cause may be a parasitic draw, a component that stays powered when it should shut off. We measure current draw with the vehicle off and track down which circuit is responsible. On the A/C side, larger SUVs and vans may have rear air units with extra lines and hoses, which add more places for leaks to develop and are worth checking when cooling seems weak.

FAQ

A/C & battery FAQs

Why is my car A/C blowing warm air?

Common causes include low refrigerant from a leak, a failing compressor or clutch, a blocked condenser or an electrical fault. We test the system before recommending a repair.

How long does a car battery last in Florida?

Heat shortens battery life, so batteries in Florida often wear out sooner than in cooler climates. We can load-test yours to see how much life is left.

Is it my battery or my alternator?

A battery test and a charging system test tell us which one is the problem, so you don’t replace the wrong part.

Can I recharge my A/C with a can from the parts store?

You can, but it often hides the real problem. If refrigerant is low, there is a leak, and adding more without fixing it means the system will lose charge again. Overcharging can also reduce cooling and strain the compressor, and some cans contain sealers that can cause problems later. A proper diagnosis finds the leak first.

Why does my car A/C smell musty?

A musty smell usually comes from moisture and microbial growth on the evaporator or inside the A/C housing, often made worse by a dirty cabin air filter or a blocked evaporator drain. Florida humidity makes this common. Replacing the cabin filter and making sure the drain flows freely often helps, and we can inspect the system if the smell persists.

Why does my battery die after sitting for a few days?

A healthy battery should hold enough charge to start the vehicle after several days parked. If it doesn’t, the battery may be weak, the charging system may not be fully recharging it, or something may be drawing power with the vehicle off. Testing the battery, the alternator and the parasitic draw usually shows which one is responsible.
