What our customers say
“I wish I could give them more than 5 ⭐️ I cannot say enough good things about this company. Lawton and Tiffany are the best! While their specialty is working and doing custom builds on Jeeps, they sure do know there way around other vehicles as well. I brought in my 2010 Subaru for a once over, they were very up front with what I needed and didn’t try to just make a quick buck off me. They are very thorough. They always kept me updated on the process of my repairs and answered any question I had. I will bring any vehicle I have in the future to them. In a world where companies try to rip people off, it’s a breath of fresh air to find a family owned business where they test you like family! THANKS AGAIN LAWTON AND TIFFANY!”View on Google
“Superior helped us with an oil cooler repair & spark plug replacement that a dealership was trying to charge us a fortune for. Fair prices, quality work, and excellent communication. I have been recommending them to anyone who needs something done!!”View on Google
“Best in the business! These guys are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to Jeeps, but they do top-notch work on all cars and trucks too. Honest, skilled, and fast—highly recommend!”View on Google
“Definitely take your Jeep or any vehicle for that fact here. They are very dedicated to make sure your vehicle is fixed and fixed correctly. They are great giving updates everyday and if you have any questions they will clearly explain or even put your vehicle up on the lift and walk you through what’s going on.”View on Google
“Honest and quality work! Lawton and his crew go above and beyond for their customers! Highly recommend for all your mechanical and tire needs!”View on Google
“About a month ago, my new to me Wrangler JLU developed a true death wobble. I called multiple shops, and was feeling defeated, then reached out to Superior. With Lawton and the team at Superior Auto & Offroad. They diagnosed my Jeep's death wobble the right way instead of just throwing parts at it. Lawton took the time to test drive it, explain exactly what was wrong, and only recommended what actually needed to be fixed. Fair pricing, honest advice, and excellent workmanship. My Wrangler has since completed a 4-day road trip and multiple trails without a single issue. They've earned my business for the long haul. Highly recommend.”View on Google
“The entire crew at Superior Offroad was incredible to work with. Their professionalism, communication, and commitment to surpassing their customer’s expectations is second to none. I met with multiple shops during the research phase of my upgrades, and none went above and beyond to help me find exactly what I wanted for my Jeep like Lawton and Tiff did. The work was thorough, on time, and very fairly and competitively priced. This shop is 100% worth the hour+ drive I make from south Tampa, and I would highly recommend Superior Offroad to anyone thinking of upgrades or service to their vehicle.”View on Google

“It’s in the name. Superior knowledge on how to build your Jeep to real off-roading capabilities. They’ll do mall crawlers and pavement princesses too but there’s plenty of other shops out there that that’s all they’re good for. Well, not really, you’ll end up having to go to Superior to fix their mistakes. Lol. Also, great at diagnosing engine issues and all things suspension/steering. The best in the Tampa/central Florida area bar none. Don’t waste your time or $ anywhere else.”View on Google
“I had to have my jeep towed to their shop on a weekend. Their team contacted me early Monday and kept me updated on the diagnostics. Within less than a week, they completed not only a ton of front end work we had already planned on, but …”Read the full review on Google

“I can’t say enough great things about Superior Off-Road! They took my Jeep to the next level by installing a lift and adding some beastly 42-inch tires. Not only does it look absolutely amazing, but the ride is smoother and more capable than ever. They also went above and beyond with their service and made sure everything was perfect. If you’re looking to upgrade your off-road vehicle, these are the folks to trust. Thanks again, Superior Off-Road!”View on Google

Services
Brake services
Brake pad & rotor replacement
We replace pads with a compound suited to your vehicle and driving, and we measure rotors against the manufacturer’s minimum thickness before deciding whether they can stay, be resurfaced or need replacement. Caliper hardware and slide pins are cleaned or replaced and lubricated so the new pads wear evenly and quietly.
Brake fluid flush
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can lead to internal corrosion. A flush replaces the old fluid throughout the system with the type your vehicle specifies, such as DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1, helping maintain a firm pedal and protecting calipers and ABS components.
Caliper & hardware repair
A sticking caliper can cause pulling, a burning smell, excess heat and rapid pad wear at one wheel. We diagnose seized pistons, stuck slide pins, worn hardware and damaged brake hoses, then repair or replace the affected parts and bleed the system to restore even, consistent braking on both sides.
ABS & warning light diagnostics
The red brake warning light and the amber ABS light point to different problems. Low fluid or an applied parking brake can trigger the red light, while the ABS light often relates to wheel speed sensors, wiring or the ABS module. We scan and test the system to find the actual fault before replacing anything.
Warning signs
Common signs you need brake service
- Squealing or grinding when you brake
- A soft, spongy or sinking brake pedal
- Vibration or pulsing in the pedal or steering wheel
- The vehicle pulls to one side when braking
- ABS or brake warning light on the dash
- Longer stopping distances than usual
Brake problems get worse, and more expensive, the longer they wait. Call the shop if you notice any of these.

How we inspect your brakes
A proper brake inspection goes beyond a glance through the wheel. We remove wheels as needed to measure pad thickness and check rotors for scoring, hot spots and thickness, and we look at calipers, slide pins, hardware, hoses and lines for wear, sticking or leaks. We also check brake fluid level and condition, and on vehicles with rear drum brakes, we inspect the shoes, wheel cylinders and adjusters.
After the inspection, we explain what we measured and what it means. Pads wear gradually, so we can usually tell you whether you need service now, in a few months or not for a while. If a caliper is sticking or a hose is swelling, we show you why it matters. You get clear options before any work starts, and we use parts that meet or exceed OE standards.
What Florida driving does to your brakes
Stop-and-go traffic is one of the hardest jobs your brakes do. Daily commutes on I-4, US-98 and busy roads across Lakeland and the surrounding area mean repeated stops from speed, which builds heat in pads and rotors. In summer, that heat adds to already high outside temperatures. Over time, excess heat can leave uneven pad deposits on the rotors, which drivers often feel as a pulsing pedal or a shaking steering wheel.
Humidity and rain play a role too. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time, which lowers its boiling point and can promote corrosion inside calipers, lines and ABS components. Rust also forms on rotor surfaces when a vehicle sits, which is why brakes may grind briefly on a damp morning. That light surface rust usually clears after a few stops, but grinding that continues should be checked.
Brakes on trucks, SUVs and lifted vehicles
Heavier vehicles need more brake capacity, and the demand rises with what you add. Larger, heavier wheels and tires increase rotating mass and leverage, so the factory brakes work harder to stop the same vehicle. Towing a boat, camper or equipment trailer adds weight your brakes must control, and the trailer’s own brakes should be set up and working properly. All of this shows up as faster pad wear and more heat.
If you’ve lifted your truck or Jeep or added bigger tires, it is worth having the brake system evaluated against how the vehicle is now built and used. Options can include upgraded pads and rotors or larger brake packages designed for your platform. For everyday cars, minivans and crossovers, the factory design is usually the right choice, and quality replacement parts restore the original stopping performance.
FAQ
Brake repair FAQs
How do I know if I need new brake pads?
Squealing, grinding, a longer stopping distance or a pulsing pedal are common signs. We can inspect pad thickness and rotor condition and tell you how much life is left.
Do rotors always need replacing with pads?
Not always. It depends on rotor thickness and condition. We measure and explain whether resurfacing, replacement or neither makes sense.
Why is my ABS light on?
Common causes include a faulty wheel speed sensor, wiring or low fluid. We test the system to find the exact cause.
Do bigger tires affect my brakes?
Yes. Larger, heavier tires take more stopping power. We can recommend upgrades for lifted trucks and Jeeps.
Is it safe to drive with a brake warning light on?
If the red brake light stays on after you fully release the parking brake, have the system checked right away, since it can signal low fluid or a hydraulic problem. If only the amber ABS light is on, your normal brakes usually still work, but the anti-lock function may not. Either way, schedule an inspection soon.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Intervals vary by manufacturer, and many list brake fluid service by time rather than mileage. Florida humidity makes following that schedule worthwhile, since brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. If you don’t know when it was last done, we can check your fluid condition during a brake inspection and let you know whether a flush is due.
Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?
A shaking steering wheel or pulsing pedal under braking often points to uneven rotor thickness or pad material deposits on the rotors, usually caused by heat. Worn suspension or steering parts can make the shake more noticeable. We measure the rotors and check the front end so the repair addresses the real cause.
