The foundation of reliability
Florida driving is hard on fluids
Florida heat, stop-and-go traffic, towing and short trips are hard on engine oil. Superior Auto & Offroad provides oil changes and fluid services at our Lakeland shop using the oil viscosity and filter specified for your vehicle.
Every visit is also a chance to spot leaks, low fluids or developing maintenance needs before they turn into expensive repairs. We include a visual check of key components with every oil change.
For 4x4s and off-road vehicles, differential and transfer case service protects the heart of your drivetrain, especially after water crossings or heavy towing.

What our customers say
“I wish I could give them more than 5 ⭐️ I cannot say enough good things about this company. Lawton and Tiffany are the best! While their specialty is working and doing custom builds on Jeeps, they sure do know there way around other vehicles as well. I brought in my 2010 Subaru for a once over, they were very up front with what I needed and didn’t try to just make a quick buck off me. They are very thorough. They always kept me updated on the process of my repairs and answered any question I had. I will bring any vehicle I have in the future to them. In a world where companies try to rip people off, it’s a breath of fresh air to find a family owned business where they test you like family! THANKS AGAIN LAWTON AND TIFFANY!”View on Google
“Superior helped us with an oil cooler repair & spark plug replacement that a dealership was trying to charge us a fortune for. Fair prices, quality work, and excellent communication. I have been recommending them to anyone who needs something done!!”View on Google
“Best in the business! These guys are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to Jeeps, but they do top-notch work on all cars and trucks too. Honest, skilled, and fast—highly recommend!”View on Google
“Definitely take your Jeep or any vehicle for that fact here. They are very dedicated to make sure your vehicle is fixed and fixed correctly. They are great giving updates everyday and if you have any questions they will clearly explain or even put your vehicle up on the lift and walk you through what’s going on.”View on Google
“Honest and quality work! Lawton and his crew go above and beyond for their customers! Highly recommend for all your mechanical and tire needs!”View on Google
“About a month ago, my new to me Wrangler JLU developed a true death wobble. I called multiple shops, and was feeling defeated, then reached out to Superior. With Lawton and the team at Superior Auto & Offroad. They diagnosed my Jeep's death wobble the right way instead of just throwing parts at it. Lawton took the time to test drive it, explain exactly what was wrong, and only recommended what actually needed to be fixed. Fair pricing, honest advice, and excellent workmanship. My Wrangler has since completed a 4-day road trip and multiple trails without a single issue. They've earned my business for the long haul. Highly recommend.”View on Google
“The entire crew at Superior Offroad was incredible to work with. Their professionalism, communication, and commitment to surpassing their customer’s expectations is second to none. I met with multiple shops during the research phase of my upgrades, and none went above and beyond to help me find exactly what I wanted for my Jeep like Lawton and Tiff did. The work was thorough, on time, and very fairly and competitively priced. This shop is 100% worth the hour+ drive I make from south Tampa, and I would highly recommend Superior Offroad to anyone thinking of upgrades or service to their vehicle.”View on Google

“It’s in the name. Superior knowledge on how to build your Jeep to real off-roading capabilities. They’ll do mall crawlers and pavement princesses too but there’s plenty of other shops out there that that’s all they’re good for. Well, not really, you’ll end up having to go to Superior to fix their mistakes. Lol. Also, great at diagnosing engine issues and all things suspension/steering. The best in the Tampa/central Florida area bar none. Don’t waste your time or $ anywhere else.”View on Google
“I had to have my jeep towed to their shop on a weekend. Their team contacted me early Monday and kept me updated on the diagnostics. Within less than a week, they completed not only a ton of front end work we had already planned on, but …”Read the full review on Google

“I can’t say enough great things about Superior Off-Road! They took my Jeep to the next level by installing a lift and adding some beastly 42-inch tires. Not only does it look absolutely amazing, but the ride is smoother and more capable than ever. They also went above and beyond with their service and made sure everything was perfect. If you’re looking to upgrade your off-road vehicle, these are the folks to trust. Thanks again, Superior Off-Road!”View on Google

Services
Comprehensive fluid services
Engine oil changes
Conventional, synthetic blend or full synthetic oil, matched to the viscosity and specification listed for your engine, with a new filter every time. We refill to the correct level and look for leaks while the vehicle is up, so small seeps get noticed early instead of turning into larger repairs down the road.
Transmission service
Automatic transmission fluid cools and lubricates internal parts and carries the hydraulic pressure that makes shifts happen, and heat breaks it down over time. We service the fluid, and the filter on transmissions that have a serviceable one, using the fluid type your manufacturer specifies, since the wrong fluid can cause shifting problems.
Differential & transfer case
Gear oil service for front and rear differentials and transfer cases on 4x4 and all-wheel-drive vehicles. We drain the old fluid, check it for metal particles or water contamination, and refill with the correct gear oil, including friction modifier where a limited-slip differential requires it.
Cooling system care
Coolant protects your engine against overheating and internal corrosion, and its corrosion inhibitors wear out over time. We check coolant condition, inspect hoses, the radiator and the water pump for leaks, and service the system with the coolant type your vehicle requires, since mixing incompatible types can cause problems.
Warning signs
What regular maintenance helps prevent
- Engine wear and sludge from old, broken-down oil
- Overheating from tired coolant
- Rough or delayed shifting
- Differential and transfer case damage on 4x4s
- Small leaks becoming big repairs
Not sure when your last service was? Bring it in and we’ll check.

Why Superior
Why get your oil changed with us
Correct oil and filter
We use the viscosity and filter your vehicle calls for, not a one-size-fits-all product.
A second set of eyes
Every oil change includes a visual check of key components.
Quick, careful turnaround
Routine maintenance done promptly, without cutting corners.
What happens during an oil change visit
We start by confirming the oil your engine actually needs. Many newer engines call for a specific viscosity, such as 0W-20 or 5W-30, along with an oil that meets a particular manufacturer or industry specification. Using the wrong oil can affect engine protection and fuel economy. We match the oil and filter to your vehicle, drain the old oil, install a new filter and refill to the correct level.
While your vehicle is in the bay, we take a look underneath and under the hood. We check other fluid levels, look for leaks at the oil pan, valve covers, axle seals and cooling hoses, and note anything worn or damaged. If something needs attention, we explain what it is and how soon it matters. You decide what happens next, and nothing is added without your approval.
Why Florida driving often counts as severe service
Many owner’s manuals list two maintenance schedules: normal and severe. The severe schedule usually applies to frequent short trips, extended idling, stop-and-go traffic, dusty roads, towing and operation in high heat. A lot of everyday driving around Lakeland fits at least one of those descriptions, especially in summer. Short trips are a particular concern because the engine may not get hot enough to burn off moisture and fuel that collect in the oil.
That doesn’t mean every vehicle needs constant oil changes. Modern synthetic oils are durable, and many vehicles have an oil life monitor that adjusts the interval based on actual operating conditions. The best approach is to know which schedule fits how you drive. We can look at your vehicle’s recommendations and your typical use, and help you settle on an interval that protects the engine without paying for service it doesn’t need.
Trucks, 4x4s and towing rigs need more than engine oil
On a truck, SUV or Jeep, the engine is only one of several components that depend on clean fluid. Front and rear differentials and the transfer case each have their own gear oil, and that oil takes a beating from towing, heavy loads and larger tires. Gear oil is not changed along with your engine oil, so it is easy to forget until a whine or a leak shows up.
Water is the other concern. Differentials and transfer cases breathe through vent tubes, and driving through deep water or flooded streets can draw water inside. Water-contaminated gear oil often looks milky and loses its ability to protect gears and bearings. If your vehicle has been through high water, whether on the trail or during a Florida storm, it is worth having the fluid checked before damage sets in.
FAQ
Oil change & maintenance FAQs
How often should I change my oil in Florida?
Follow your manufacturer’s schedule. Towing, frequent idling, short trips and high heat may call for the severe-service interval. We can review the right schedule for your vehicle.
Do you offer full synthetic oil changes?
Yes. We offer oil and filter options matched to your vehicle’s specifications and how you drive.
What else do you check during an oil change?
We check fluid levels, look for visible leaks, and note maintenance items that may need attention.
Can I schedule other maintenance at the same time?
Yes. Mention warning lights, brake concerns or tire issues when you book.
What does my oil life monitor actually measure?
Most oil life monitors don’t test the oil directly. They estimate remaining life from engine data such as operating temperature, engine revolutions, trip length and running time. They are generally reliable, but you should still check the oil level between changes, because the monitor can’t tell you if the engine is running low on oil.
Is it normal for my engine to use some oil between changes?
Some oil consumption is normal, and manufacturers set their own limits for what’s acceptable. Higher-mileage engines, turbocharged engines and engines worked hard in heat may use more. Check the dipstick about once a month. If you’re adding oil regularly or see blue smoke from the exhaust, have the engine inspected for leaks or internal wear.
How often should differential and transfer case fluid be changed?
It varies widely by vehicle, so check your owner’s manual or ask us. Towing, off-road use, larger tires and water crossings usually call for more frequent service than normal driving. If you’re not sure when it was last done, we can check the fluid condition and give you a recommendation based on what we see.
